Policies

We value our diversity. We treat each other, our opponents, league officials, spectators and volunteers with fairness, dignity and respect at all times on and off the ice. We encourage individual opportunity and growth. We love to compete, and we believe that competition brings out the best in us. We work together as a Team.

 

You’ll be asked to agree to our waiver and code of conduct during the registration process. Please review it now before registration opens.

 

Waiver

I, hereby acknowledge that participation in activities organized by The Cutting Edges - Vancouver LGBTQ+ Hockey Association involves certain inherent risks, including but not limited to the risk of injury. In consideration of being allowed to participate in such activities, I agree to the following terms and conditions:

 

  1. I will adhere to all rules, regulations, and codes of conduct set forth by The Cutting Edges - Vancouver LGBTQ+ Hockey Association and the league, and I understand that failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to suspension or expulsion from participation.

  2. I acknowledge that injuries are a potential risk associated with participation in hockey activities, and I accept full responsibility for any injuries sustained during such activities. I understand that The Cutting Edges - Vancouver LGBTQ+ Hockey Association does not provide reimbursement for any fees or expenses incurred as a result of injury.

  3. I agree to return all equipment and jerseys provided to me by The Cutting Edges - Vancouver LGBTQ+ Hockey Association in the same condition as when received, normal wear and tear excepted. I understand that I will be responsible for the cost of any equipment or jerseys that are not returned or are returned damaged.

  4. I hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue The Cutting Edges - Vancouver LGBTQ+ Hockey Association, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and volunteers from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, including death, that may be sustained by me or any property belonging to me while participating in activities organized by The Cutting Edges - Vancouver LGBTQ+ Hockey Association.

  5. I understand that my participation in activities organized by The Cutting Edges - Vancouver LGBTQ+ Hockey Association is contingent upon my payment of all fees owed to the club, either in full or in accordance with an agreed-upon payment plan. Failure to fulfill payment obligations may result in my suspension or termination of participation.

 

I have read this waiver and fully understand its terms. I understand that I am giving up substantial rights, including my right to sue, and I acknowledge that I am signing this waiver freely and voluntarily. I further certify that I am at least 19 years of age.

Code of Conduct

 

The Cutting Edges - Vancouver LGBTQ+ Hockey Association

 

All members of The Cutting Edges have the following responsibilities:

​

  • Demonstrate & promote respect to individuals regardless of body type, physical characteristics, athletic ability, age, ancestry, colour, race, citizenship, ethnic origin, place of origin, creed, disability, family status, marital status, gender identity, gender expression, sex, sexual orientation or any other grounds protected under Human Rights legislation in Canada.

  • Demonstrate & promote respect for the principles of fair play, sport leadership and ethical conduct. This includes:

  • Respect for both the letter and spirit of the rules of hockey;

  • Respect for referees/officials and their decisions;

  • Respect for opponents; and

  • Maintenance of self-control at all times

 

Demonstrate & promote respect for your teammates (and team manager's) time and effort, which means:

​

  • Entering your availability for games in BenchApp in a timely manner (at least 72 hours before game time);

  • Arriving at the rink with enough time to be fully dressed and at the bench before the start of play (this means arriving at the locker room a minimum of 20 minutes—or more—before game time);

  • If you know that you will be late or can no longer attend a game, notify your team manager as soon as you become aware of this (safely; no distracted driving!)

 

Demonstrate & promote respect for your teammates, both on and off the ice. This includes:

​

  • Being a positive and supportive teammate at all times;

  • Creating a welcoming environment in the locker room;

  • Helping de-escalate confrontations with opposing players on the ice, should they arise; and

  • Resolving conflicts between teammates in a professional and dignified manner

 

Promote the sport of hockey in the most constructive and positive manner possible.

Promote and support inclusivity in hockey while being a good representative of The Cutting Edges.

​

Most importantly of all, HAVE FUN!

​

Failure to adhere to this code of conduct will trigger an evaluation by the Executive board and team managers and may result in possible suspension or expulsion, in accordance with club bylaws.
