How registration works

There are a few things to know about how registration will work this year.

Registration Time

New this year, applications for full-time spots will be taken starting Saturday, June 6th at noon until Saturday, June 13th.

After this time, you’ll still be able to register to join the Cutting Edges as a spare, or join a waitlist for a full-time spot.

Also new this year, all registration (ASHL, ARCHL, goalies, spares, waitlist) will use a single form. The link to this form will be added to the website on Saturday, June 6th at noon, as well as emailed out to our mailing list at the same time.

Membership fee is due at registration

The $30 membership is due today when you register. Your membership runs for one year (fall plus summer seasons), and helps us cover administrative fees like insurance, and makes you eligible to spare for $30/game.

You can learn more about your membership due on the Cost & Financial Assistance page.

Separate application for a full-time spot

As full-time spots are limited, this year we're moving to an application model. You can apply for a full-time spot as part of registration.

Applications are open from Saturday, June 6th until Saturday, June 13th. After that you can still register to be a member and to spare, and optionally be added to a waitlist.

We’ll collect league fees via e-transfer from anyone who secures a full-time spot in July.

How full-time spots are awarded

After registration closes, we’ll assign full-time spots based on this order of priority:

  1. Returning full-time players from last fall or summer season.

  2. Paying members from last year who were not on a full-time roster (spares).

  3. New members or those who played more than one year ago and were not a member last year.

If returning member demand exceeds spots in a league, registration time breaks the tie. So even with returning member priority, registering early is still recommended, especially for goalie spots which have filled quickly in recent seasons.

How and when teams are decided

Once registration closes, we’ll divide players among the available spots across ASHL and ARCHL. We’ll try to get as many people a full-time spot as possible, with priority given to returning players and spares and those who registered earliest if required.

We aim to notify everyone of their status (spot secured vs. waitlist) within a week of registration closing. For those on the waitlist, if a spot becomes available, we’ll let you know as soon as possible. Spots may become available up until the beginning of the fall season.

Why we’re moving to this new approach

In the past, Cutting Edges spots would take days or weeks to fill up, but in recent seasons, spots have filled up in days or even hours. We heard feedback in our year-end survey from returning players having to go on a waitlist to get a full-time spot and sometimes not getting a spot at all.

By first having everyone register and indicate they want a full-time spot, we can then make decisions about the makeup of teams across the leagues. From there, we can divide up the available spots, starting with returning full-time players, then spares, and then new members.

What else to expect post-registration

Lots of exciting things to come between registration and the start of the fall season.

The Association will host a number of events, including a kick-off party, practices, and evaluation skates. Stay tuned for emails with more information on these events.

For those on a waitlist, we’ll let you know over email if a spot opens up.

Closer to the start of the season we’ll announce the different teams and their rosters.
